Unclaimed tax refunds are at an all time high. The IRS released the figures for unclaimed tax refunds and tax rebates of $110 MILLION.
The $110 Million in unclaimed money is owed to 115,478 Americans, with the average unclaimed tax refund check totaling $953.
So, why are these returns unclaimed?
Bad Address on File with the IRS
These $110 Million in unclaimed tax refund or rebate checks could not be delivered at the address on file with the IRS and are classified as undeliverable.
It is important to update your address with the IRS when you move. This can be done easily by downloading IRS form 8822, the change of address form for the IRS by clicking here.

Unclaimed money in the United States is at an all time high, $25 Billion, and unclaimed tax refunds make up a large portion of that number. Approximately $2 Billion in unclaimed tax refunds is owed to 1,714,500 Americans who did not file for their return in 2002.
People owed refunds on their 2002 taxes have until April 17, 2006 to file for that tax year and claim their refund. If they do not file the $2 Billion will be forfeited to the government.

Unclaimed money accounts in the United States total over $25 BILLION dollars! The money ends up in these account do to the governments “escheat laws� requiring institutions such as banks to turn over funds from dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, unused gift cards, etc. States are now passing bills to spend the money from these Unclaimed Property Trust Funds.
These funds are owed to millions of Americans and instead of making any sizable effort to contact the rightful owners, the state is now proposing to spend this money to handle there own budget problems.
